Neighborhood House and
those who participate in its activities have a long
tradition of neighborliness. A few examples of how we
reach out to the community include: |
- Neighborhood House maintains a
store of donated wheelchairs, walkers, bath stools,
and other aids to keep neighborhood residents
independent and ambulatory. These items are loaned,
free of charge, to members of the community on
request. Surplus items are donated to various programs
that work to improve life in needy countries such as
the Ukraine and Central America. We welcome donations
of usable items.

-
Each winter holiday season local
schools and organizations, Girl Scouts, and individual
donors drop off donations of non-perishable food.
Neighborhood House staff and volunteer, including
students from EF Language School, then assemble and
distribute 10 to 15 holiday baskets to needy seniors
and families in the community.
|
- Throughout the year, Neighborhood
House maintains an informal, not-for-profit thrift
store. The store's merchandise, consisting mainly of
clothing and small household goods, provides a means
for older members of the community and needy families
to purchase necessary items at low cost. We also host
a Spring Sale each May to help subsidize our community
efforts.

- We also work with the Westchester County Health
Department to offer seasonal flu and pneumonia shots
to our older community members. Neighborhood House
receives no payment for hosting this event, but
provides it as a service to the community.
